Shakespeare & Swordplay: Hits & Wits (theatre clinic & stage combat camp)

Come act the part: learn how to foil a villain, or target the heart of your Romeo with your rapier wit! This theatrical Stage Combat camp & acting class is for students who wish to learn how to perform theatre (from professional theatre directors) or the skills to safely and dramatically swing swords, throw punches, and slap realistically!
We’ll review; epic film & stage fight scene examples; underscore music that can make or break a great battle; and, intro techniques in single-sword, unarmed, & quarterstaff! Both lead teachers, Phoenix & Amy, have 22+ years experience in choreographing staged violence; and are also trained in Stage Combat safety by the Society of American Fight Directors (and featured guest instructor in the WA State Thespian Conference).

A fun and music-filled drama camp: Participants will be the stars of the stage! We’ll review and choose fun-to-sing favorites from shows/films like Wicked, Moana, Encanto, Greatest Showman, Lion King, Mamma Mia, & Hamilton! Young performing artists will grow their confidence and let their imaginations shine as we sing, dance, improvise, and act some musical theatre. Improv games, teamwork, and theatre production design may all be part of setting this stage!
Educators are experienced theatre artists, including longtime TDA summer camp educator Sophie Otness (& alumni student of our programs). Campers/cast members may work on songs or dances from different musicals. Outside daily recess will be our ‘intermission’ each day, so pack a sack lunch and wear clothes you can move in!

An expansion of one of TDA’s monthly themes, all packed into a one-week Summer Camp! Choose a codename, and join us as we solve puzzles, make deductions, build spy gadgets, and learn the skills of secret agents, spies, and detectives! Students will learn how to solve mysteries, protect the secret “MacGuffin”, encode messages, escape laser grids and restraints, pick locks, roleplay with games & adventure, and become masters of disguise for any impossible mission!

Camp includes daily outside recess/lunch break, and each camper gets their own new set of D&D dice! This camp is a stand alone campaign story. Bring your “PHB”: we’ll create characters, in camp, on the first day. Limited space / this camp will fill early!

Dragonfly “Pirates & Mermaids - Avast Ye Mateys” camp - half-day for younger campers

We’ll roleplay in islands and seas as Mermaids, Pirates, and others! Creative drama games, well-known songs, art, and our imaginations will combine to give everyone an adventure of time-travel and fantasy from the high seas!
What to bring: You’ll be keeping the scurvy away with an easy snack & a water bottle. Also stowaway yer change of clothes/outside gear, and feel free to wear your mermaid tails/hair and use ye pirate costumes and accents!
A funny and fun, musical and fantastical bite-size drama class for younger campers! Summer fun in the Seattle Center Campus - each day opens with games and intros to our projects and tasks of the day, so we’re never under too much pressure. Experiment with art and theatre!

Camp includes sword games (ala Amptgard Games), creating D&D-style characters, art pages, & cool magic, plus a specific story/quest for the week.
This is an outdoors-all-day camp at/around Seattle Center; pickup/drop-off will be at the MoPop turnaround: campers must bring/wear appropriate gear (and are welcome to add costume elements themed to the camp), and extra snacks.

Magic:TG players: you get to choose how you want to use this camp: for gruel & duel, trades, or learn more about the king of the Collectible Card Games! Play for fun, and share strategies! You’ve learned all the tricks, cards, sets, mechanics - now play non-stop duels & group games each day! Learn deck building & effective balancing and synergy methods.
Camp features theme days to try out a variety of formats & variants, including Commander, Pauper, ManaRush, and more! Be prepared to change up tables, players, and formats for variety! We’ll enjoy delving into game design, card values, and the collectible, amazing art of M:TG. Camp also offers occasional card giveaways, in-class micro-tourneys, & life counters papercrafts. On the final day, a ‘students-vs-teachers’ ‘Rumble’ is our tradition, with booster pack prizes!

Each day this week, young witches, wizards, & warlocks will immerse themselves in the magical world - AND there will be a unique-to-this-week story revealed throughout the week with a mystery to solve!
Our own rebel Wizarding World* School of Magic! This week, we’ll enlist the help of friends such as famed broom maker Ichabod Crabtree, and employee named Pontius from the Dept of Magical Vehicles, and maybe even get in touch with famed aerobat Septimus Romano. All while getting a thorough education in all the skills a sorcerer needs to know. With Wanda Schlimazel teaching potions, divination, and cryptozoology, and Dr. Devious Incomprehensible teaching charms, dueling, and Defense Against the Dark Arts, you will surely emerge from Hoghedges School of Sorcery ready to make your mark in the wizarding world.

These are all part of the world’s greatest role-playing game, D&D! Campers will learn about the revised ‘5th Edition’ D&D rules within a 5 day campaign. This camp is a good fit for those with beginner-to-intermediate experience. Campers will choose from pre-generated characters (and customize them) on the first day; then we set out for adventure, exploration, & quests!

One of Three Dragons Academy’s most popular camps, updated & improved as an overland adventure & quests week! New and traditional Merit Badge accomplishments. Be Prepared for wonder and the promise of achievements in this mostly-outdoors day camp! Members of our pack/troop will share the best parts of classic summertime camp: scavenger hunting, games, hikes, lanyard braiding & other handicrafts, bubbles, and more! Patrol around the nearby park campus on hunts, field day activities, and obstacle courses. Earn practical skills, make crafts, and even hear some stories ‘around the campfire’. This camp’s motto emphasizes fun & friends, and you’ll learn a lot, too - scout’s honor!

The perfect mash-up of The Odyssey and a Hamilton-style musical. This camp is one part crash-course theatre clinic, one part play-production workshop: this all-in-one musical theatre production camp has everyone working behind the scenes AND everyone onstage finding their light! This TDA Summerstock play is the Youtube & animatics sensation, “EPIC the Musical”(abridged), all about the story of the ODYSSEY with a non-stop modern Broadway score! There’s no business like show business!!

TDA CAMP POLICIES:
:: Every student must bring weather-appropriate clothing (rain gear for chance of rain days), a water bottle, a picnic blanket or extralarge towel, a snack, a backpack or shoulder bag in which to carry their own things - labeled with their name.
:: All campers signed up for a full day of camps need to bring a sack lunch (and we recommend a separate snack/lunch, too, for half day camps as well!).
:: Contact us ASAP if you’re running late or have a day-of concern.
:: Parents/guardians must notify us at the time of registration of any allergy or other concerns.
:: Three Dragons cannot administer or manage medications. However, please do send your child with an extra EPIPEN for the camp backpack, if their allergies require the need for one, so we have a spare for emergency/first-aid use.
:: Phones/devices/smartwatches & other screens may need to stay in backpacks during camp.
:: Classroom rules, voted by students, include “Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Brave, Be Fun, and Be Fair”- these are the expectations for all programs and camps.
Cancellations / Camp Cancellation & refunding policy:
All camp withdrawals/cancellations incur a $50 admin fee.
- Camp withdrawals with more than 15 days notice = partial tuition refund available; 50%, minus the admin fee.
- Camp withdrawals/cancellations with 30 days or more notice = tuition is refundable, minus the admin fee.
- Tuition is nonrefundable for all cancellations/withdrawals with 15 or fewer days advance notice.
A note about TDA’s truly Child-Centered learning environment:
:: Three Dragons offers educational & creative/recreational camps & classes, and is not able to offer aftercare, before-care, nor any form of childcare*. Campers must be self-sufficient and voluntarily opting-in to camps. Parents and other guests are not permitted to join the camp. Campers who request to not participate or to go home, will be accommodated & sent home. (* sorry, these educational fine arts & theatre-based camps are not valid for IRS credits or exemptions).

Locations: Uptown neighborhood and Seattle Center: Summer Camps will be held in our new classroom in On The Boards’ Center for the Performing Arts building in the Uptown neighborhood (104 West Roy Street). Recess and outdoors camps (like Merit Badge) will include the nearby Seattle Center campus. Recess may include nearby parks (including but not limited to Counterbalance Park & Bayview Playground).
