2023 -24 academic year: Exciting news! We are currently accepting applications for 2 positions: contracted/stipend based part-time Teaching Assistants & Artist Educators!

Teaching Assistant: The ‘stage manager’ of our classroom: Using child-centered growth mindset, Teaching Assistants support the agency, safety, and growth of the students; Help support the lead teachers in classroom management, including leading warmups and improv-based games; Tutor/lead kids in certain projects or lessons; Track schedules and logistics for daily transitions as well as for special events (4/year); Set up and strike shows/showcases; Act as supervisor and arbiter through free-choice recess hours, rain or shine; Organize, sanitize, & clean the spaces including stage, reading area, art area, storage; Restock art, theatre & music supplies / manage inventory of costumes, crafting supplies, etc.; Help assemble and breakdown monthly theme ‘works’. Previous theatre experience helpful, vibrancy & high-energy hustle required, prior experience leading a large group of multiage kids is expected. Hours: parttime, 8:30a-12:30, flexible days.

Artist-Educator: The ‘lead teacher’ (or ‘director’ of the cast that is our class of TDA or SPARK students): Utilizing a critically-important hybrid child-centered learning approach, lead the day’s activities, themes, transitions, recess, etc. through a 10 month progression of themes centered on the fine arts, innovation, nurturing self-confidence, and greenlighting innovation. This role is a member of a team-teaching group of Artist-Educators who lesson-plan, create/design new works, and assign challenges to third-year and up students each year. Artist-Educators are on their feet for most of the day, in order to move around from work to work, juggle daily tasks/classroom logistics, and provide equity for each student- Leads make specific daily efforts for individualized connection to each student, and meet them at their needs. Responsibilities include executing lesson plans; leading themes, games, songs and lessons; and helping everyone in the classroom to be kind, fair, brave, safe, and fun. Previous experience with multiage children’s programs or lessons (Ages K-8) required; working theatre professions and alternative-education teachers given priority consideration. Hours: 8:30a-3:30, flexible days among M-F, minimum 3 days.

TDA also occasionally hosts or mentors interns - usually highschool age/running start age interns (some of whom are former TDA or SPARK students)!

We do invite accomplished artist-educators in fields related to our themes to run special guest workshops. If you are an established, professional artist as well as a youth educator and would like to develop a workshop for TDA, please contact us.
