Summer Camps

Join us for eight weeks of the best arts-based summer camps in Seattle! Dramatic role play, visual arts, fantasy, gaming, swordplay, and theater! Camps are for kids ages 4 – 14. Please see individual camp descriptions below for age guidelines by camp.

Many of our camps are a la carte: sign up for any combination of days or the whole week. All camps include outdoor time on our playground and onsite park.

2018 Summer Camp Sessions

A Week at Hogwarts: Crookshanks (A la carte or full week)

June 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29
9:30 am – 2:30 pm
Ages: 6 – 12
Fee: 285 for the week or 70/day

Take the Express from platform 9¾, and spend the week at Hogwarts, featuring Professor Cory! We'll find out our houses from the sorting hat, recite spells, engage in role play, learn wand craft, brew potions, and even play (Muggle) Quidditch!! Each day this week, young witches and wizards will immerse themselves in the magic of JK Rowling’s wonderful wizarding World!

July 2, 3, 5, and 6 (no camp Wednesday, July 4)

Merit Badge Summer Camp (FULL WEEK)

July 9 – July 13
9:30 am – 2:30 pm
Ages: 6 – 12
Fee: 285 for the week

All the best parts of classic camp in summer time: lanyard braiding and other handcrafts, field games, stories "around the campfire", bubbles, scavenger hunts at Cowen Park, and more! Crafts, practical skills, that sense of wonder and accomplishment—all the traditional Merit Badge goals stuffed into one week of indoor and outdoor day camp! This camp is packed with fun and friends, and you’ll learn a lot, too. Scout’s honor!

Magic: The Gathering I—Art of the Duel (A La Carte or Full week)

July 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20
9:30 am – 2:30 pm
Ages: 8 – 14
Fee: 285 for the week or 70/day

Learn the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering (or hone your existing skills). We'll create unique spells and creatures, design artwork, and playtest your dreamed-up rules in real gameplay! Guest players, assistants, and guest artists pepper the week to help us create artwork, spells, artifacts, sorceries, and more. Campers attending at least one day plus Friday will customize and take home their own Magic deck!

Dragonfly: Ride the Waves wtih Mermaids & Pirates (Half day camp, Full Week)

July 30 –August 3
9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Ages: 4 – 7
Fee: 235 for the week

This week, we bring our Dragonfly Camp program to summertime! Come join us as we cycle through the mythology, drama, magic, famous stories, and fun of mermaids and pirates! This camp features art making, music, and plenty of drama for younger merfolk and buccaneers! We’ll play creative theatre games, sing and dance, engage in fun water play, and investigate the historical as well as fantastical! The shorter day is perfect for younger campers!

Magic: The Gathering II—Afternoon BattleClub (Half day camp, Full Week)

July 30 – August 3
1 – 4 pm
Ages: 8 – 14
Fee: 235 for the week or 70/day

Take the next step in your training: you’ve learned all the tricks, cards, and strategies ... now apply them to nonstop duels (games) each day! We’ll touch on deck building and efficient construction methods, then it's time to duel (with expert Magic:TG mentor-guides available to advise and referee)! Guest artists TBA. Also: experiment with different "official" styles of gameplay (Standard; Legacy; Commander, etc., generally nonlimited formats). Then, we’ll intro and use some of the best player-created game formats such as Two-Headed Giant, Cube, and ManaRush! Campers who are signed up for the full week may each take home two camp Planeswalkers cards!

Improv: A Hysterical Summer Camp!

August 13 – August 17
9:30 am –2:30 pm
Ages: 8–12
Fee: 285 for the week

Improv! Theatre skills! Self-confidence! Funny stuff! Join TDA for a week of improv comedy with a professional improv actor, TDA's own MJ Jurgensen (MJ performs with Jet City improv and many theatres around Seattle). Improv is a great life skill and a ton of fun, and it utilizes all theatre skills including dance, music, and unexpected props. Using Fractured Fairy Tales as a base, we'll explore the art of improv from every hilarious angle!
